An Escape on the Open Road

The waitress passed by our table to serve a round of coffee to the eight off duty fire men and I picked up the local Brandon Sun to read the morning headlines, “Failed jail escape gets opposite of desired result”.
The story was about a thousand words long and absolutely layered with ‘wow’ moments. Two prison cell mates had escaped from the local Brandon jail only to run straight into the icy January Assiniboine River. While one decided to jump in and swim for it, the other managed to get roadside and hitch a ride to Winnipeg; both were arrested within twenty four hours. This is why.

A River Ran Through It

Many rivers crisscross Namibia.  The challenge is identifying one before you drive into it.

Speak to anyone who has been to Namibia and they will likely rave about it.   Clean water, great accommodation, outstanding scenery, fabulous wildlife, friendly people, and yes an extensive road network.   Because main attractions are hundreds of miles apart expect to spend a lot of time behind the wheel of your car.  Namibia is a country for driving enthusiasts. We watched this mother nesting training from our balcony a heartbeat away. It was too too cute with the little one curling up to rest moments later.

An after dinner walk. This mother leopard had just finished dining on an impala and then went off in search of her cub. Beautiful.
